Slight Divergence

I typically use this blog as a way to express my interest in things unrelated to my career; however, I'm compelled to post about the U.S. Supreme Court agreeing to accept an appeal from Hawaii's Attorney General Mark Bennet, whose hoping the Court will overturn a State Court ruling that prevents the State from selling 1.2 million acres of ceded land (lands once owned by the Hawaiian Monarchy before the Hawaiian government was overthrown and the islands annexed to the United States) in the case of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs v. Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaii. Read about it here. Apologetically this is incredibly boring for those outside of Hawaii, however, it is important to native Hawaiians, residents of Hawaii, and in relation to the rights of indigenous peoples in general.
