in my inbox this morning was this ad from j.crew trying to lure me to their site to buy breezy summer dresses with the promise of new arrivals "fresh from hawaii".
but looking at this ad there's not much that reflects Hawaii aside from the surfboards and sand. being from Hawaii, i was disappointed that j.crew didn't do a better job of tapping into our island style -- which is so much more than crazy aloha shirts and flowered leis. this ad looks like models awkwardly holding surfboards with a stray bridesmaid from a beach wedding.
i typically love j.crew catalogues and ads. there's always a nice interplay btwn the clothes and the environment; like this great one that I saw on absolutely beautiful things blog:
It's so cute and fun--and makes me want to go to a clam bake. I guess the prepsters at j.crew only know how to do east coast style. For some great ideas on island stylings go to hapa hale -- a great blog on modern designs inspired by hawaii.
