`Iolani Palace and Hawaiian Sovereignty

News: Hawaiian sovereignty sympathisers are blocking the entrances to `Iolani Palace this morning; preventing staff, volunteers, and visitors from entering or exiting. According to a source that is on site the demonstrators' intent is to take over the office. Honolulu Police Department and the Hawaii State Department of Land & Natural Resources (DLNR) are enroute to the palace.

Such demonstrations are common as the palace is a site of political, cultural, and social significance to the Hawaiian people. It is likely that today's demonstrators are advocating the restoration of Hawaiian independence.
